Prey in the Open
My heart lay
On the dinner table
Prey in the open
For you to feast upon
Anticipation
Rocketing through
The cavern
Where my heart
Usually rests
You are the first to ask
To see it in its entirety
The first to plead
To see it raw
Frightened tears
Mix with those of sureness
As you ask for the check
Carefully boxing up
What i’ve given to you
It sits smudged
With the parts of myself
I guard fiercely
Unsure
If you will love them
Unsure
If you can look past them
As you take it to go
Carefully bundled in your arms
I am sure
