Happy Un-Anniversary
Today is our fortieth wedding anniversary.
Divorced for thirty-two of those years-
Happy Un-Anniversary.
Did you pause an instant to
remember the day?
a catch in your throat
a squint in your eye
a purse of your lips
an unconscious sigh
I wrote to you,
then tossed it away
crumpled, needless note.
What’s there to say?
When your phone didn’t ring,
did you know it was me?
Are you still broken?
More issues with daddy?
Yes, I’m doing fine
each and every time I check
But I’m moved to wonder if
your hair is still perfect.
