They’ll never write
a true love letter:
no passion pressing against margins,
nor metaphors gone
crazy outside the predictability
of a love poem, their name not signed
with the same letters
that could list a grocery list,
and their underfed affection
without a page to nourish
their own starving eyes
because there’s more convenient ways now
to leave things unsaid.
