The World is Theirs

                   —for Amy

a store of tiny cabinets
and tin stars
and gold angels
and hand-stitched handkerchiefs
and monogrammed stationary
and all varieties of stamps
and a woman who once was a man
and a mother who once had a son
sift through the entire store
the mother and her daughter will design postcards
to send one another, and with each
they’ll turn something ordinary
into what neither can predict,
as necessary as love.
