A Tragic Tryst
Your heart said it was wrong,
I was as off-limits as they come.
We never meant to fall in love
so, we called our tryst a tragedy.
Your pupils eclipse your eyes
as you study my face—
a vestige of lovers’ past or
some sort of phantom pain
back to break your heart again.
You pour me a glass and we toast
to the catastrophe.
