calling/wanting/needing/begging/holding/loving you
come dance with me
where the lights are low
and the music is dim
couples heavy with the murmur of seduction
take my hand, and let us sway to the beat of ‘fever’
i will hold you in my chest if you let me
skating across the floor like stars scattered in the sky
be the pinprick of glow in my endless dark
burning midnight like a promise
and your personal tempest
my voice wants to say ‘i love you’
and my body is reacting instinctually, drawn to the heat of your touch
skin and bones collide, slick
your blood staining my chest in prayer
and longing, like a curse
you are, i think, my curse
unhappy memory filling my mouth instead of your lips
come dance with me,
my heart yearns to call
even watching yours belong to another
please, come dance with me
in moonlight and in stardust
in all those metaphors i made for you
find a home under the canopy of my words
even if you thought it was not meant to be yours
i want to fall for you in red dim
eyes painted with the husk of smoke and mirrors
if you let me, i’d be yours
kisses trailing hearts and spades and clubs down your back
even diamonds, if you wanted
show me the opportunity to give what she could not
i understand you are lost
but let me be lost in you, with you,
live in the hallucination of a poet’s future
for just one bright, beautiful second
temptation is sin but
you would eat the apple without a second thought
so allow me to be the snake that guides you to it
we could be haunting in an angelic way
and i know you know it
maybe you’re just scared
but red lips always call for attention
and maybe you didn’t want mine
maybe i didn’t want you
yet here we are, hovering wild at blind chance
so darling, please, come dance with me.
